Wewoka Oklahoma Tornado

This storm developed near Altus Oklahoma. Threatening for nearly 200 miles to produce a tornado, it ended up in Wewoka. 6-8-98
 
 
 
This funnel near Noble was low enough to tear branches from the tops of trees but never actually touched down.
 
West of Wewoka and totally unaware, this state trooper (Left) is heading away from the tornado because the event had not yet been reported.
 
Debris is one of the first things to be removed to make way for emergency personnel. Had we not stopped for gas, this could have been us.
 
While some neighbors had only a few pieces of debris in their yards,  homes next door were nearly destroyed. Things like this are common.
 
Debris is the #1 killer in a tornado. 
 
Gregory Moy lost his garage, windows from his truck and house and other property, but not his dog. Although they had put him in the cellar, the dog ran out before the cellar doors closed. While Mr. Moy fought to hold the cellar doors down, his dog came through without a scratch. 
 
Ruth White lost the roof off her house and three garages when they were hit by what appeared to be three separate tornadoes. This mattress from the second story was nearly sucked out the window.
 
The electric and other utility companies worked throughout the night to restore services, while the Red Cross handed out blankets and other necessities.
